LAGRIMA is a fairly new digital piano brand that’s taking the market by storm. Despite their young reputation and affordable pianos, they consistently produce some of the best budget-friendly instruments on the market.

And in this LAGRIMA LAG-800 vs LAGRIMA LAG-600 review, we’re taking a close look at both models. We’ll dive into how they sound, how they feel, and how versatile they are to help you determine the best option for your needs.

Since the LAGRIMA LAG-600 comes with more voices and is the more versatile option, it ended up winning this comparison. However, when I did the research, I found that even if the LAGRIMA LAG-800 isn’t as versatile, there are many pianists that might actually prefer this console model over the portable option.

By the end of this review, you’ll have a full picture of both pianos, making it easier for you to determine which one suits your needs the best. That way, buying your first digital piano won’t be as much of a hassle!

Lagrima LAG-800 vs Lagrima LAG-600: A Head to Head Comparison

There were four main categories that I used to compare the LAGRIMA LAG-800 and the LAG-600. And after analyzing each piano’s tone, feel, piano features, and overall versatility, the final score was 4-3 in favor of the LAG-600. These pianos were tied in just about every category, proving that they are definitely on par with each other.

However, the LAGRIMA LAG-600 was definitely the more versatile option. It comes with more voices and is very easy to move around, making it ideal for pianists on the go. And for that reason, the LAG-600 ended up winning the entire comparison.

Tone

The winner: Tie

When it comes to tone, you might be surprised that these pianos were tied. While the LAG-600 comes with way more voices than the LAG-800, there’s no denying the sheer quality of the LAG-800’s tones. So, if you opt for the LAG-800, you get quality over quantity, but if you need to have multiple tones and voices to choose from, the LAG-600 might be the better pick.

+Tone Generator

The piano looks great and plays wonderfully
The piano looks great and plays wonderfully

Both of these pianos have relatively basic tone generators. While I couldn’t find exact information on what generators they use, I did find out that they rely on samples to produce their tones. So, each piano is loaded with various recordings of real instruments, and whenever you press a key, you trigger the sound.

That said, it’s obvious that the LAG-800 has higher-quality samples. As a console digital piano, this model is designed to replicate the sound, feel, and look of an acoustic piano. So, LAGRIMA did its part and loaded it with better samples that captured more detail and character compared to the LAG-600.

To be honest, the sound quality on the LAG-600 is nothing special. While you get great tonal variety, the sounds are about tied with any other digital piano in this price range. This is why the LAG-800 wins out when it comes to tone quality, but as you’ll see, the LAG-600 reigned supreme when I compared the sound libraries.

+Sound Library

The reason the tones are higher quality on the LAG-800 is that the samples contain more data. And since you can only load a certain amount of memory on this digital piano, the sound library suffered as a result. This piano only comes with 5 different piano tones, which are all high-quality but undoubtedly limited.

On the flip side, the LAGRIMA LAG-600 offers over 800 voices to choose from. This is great for pianists that enjoy playing multiple styles of music and want to cover various genres. That said, keep in mind that the sound quality of these voices isn’t the best. So, while you do get a lot of options, they won’t be as crisp or clear as the voices on the LAG-800.

Feel

The winner: Tie

These are some of the most affordable digital pianos on the market. And while they sound decent and offer various features, they don’t feel that realistic. They don’t have weighted keys, which is a huge letdown, especially if you’re looking for a realistic piano. So, I ended up giving the point to both pianos, even though I wasn’t impressed by either in this category.

+Hammer Action

You don’t have weighted keys with these pianos. This means that you can instantly tell that you’re playing a digital instrument, and you lack the resistance that many pianists look for when they press a key. This is fine for beginners and those that don’t need weighted keys, but if you’re looking for a digital piano that feels the same as an acoustic piano, these aren’t the best options.

Piano Features

The winner: Tie

Another area I decided to look at was the polyphony and playing modes on the piano. And since these pianos have the same basic piano features, I couldn’t choose a winner between the two. So yet again, these two pianos split the point.

+Polyphony

The polyphony on these pianos is nothing special, but it’s nothing to complain about, either. With 64-note polyphony, you can play a lot of notes at the same time. And even if you prolong the length of notes with the sustain pedal, you can expect them to ring out for a long time. However, it would have been nice for either of these pianos to have at least 128-note polyphony so that you can be even more expressive in the way you play.

If you’re a beginner 64-note polyphony is more than fine. But if you want to add more expression and emotion to your playing, you might want to pay more for a 128-note polyphony piano.

+Playing Modes

The LAGRIMA LAG-800 comes with lesson mode, dual mode, and split mode. This is great for beginners as it allows you to explore various sounds and playing styles on the piano while also making it easier to play duets and do piano lessons. These modes allow you to split the piano into twin keyboards, blend different tones, and divide the piano into distinct zones with their own voice.

The LAG-600 comes with almost all of these modes. However, it notably lacks lesson mode, which is kind of odd, considering this is a beginner’s piano. But aside from that slight complaint, the LAG-800 and LAG-600 were basically tied in this category.

Versatility

The winner: LAGRIMA LAG-600

The only reason the LAGRIMA LAG-600 won out in this comparison was versatility. As a pianist, whether you’re a beginner or a novice, it’s important to ensure that you have flexibility with your instrument. And since the LAG-600 is portable, you can easily bring it with you to piano lessons, jams, and even performances.

On the other hand, this feature isn’t important for everyone. Since the LAG-800 has better sound quality and more playing modes than the LAG-800, it might be the better option if you’re fine with keeping the piano in one place. But if you need a piano you can bring with you to different venues; then you will need the LAG-600.

Lagrima LAG-800 vs Lagrima LAG-600: The Similarities

Despite one option being a console piano and one being a portable one, these instruments share a fair amount of similarities. This is primarily because these pianos are made by the same manufacturer and come from the same product line. So, when you strip them away, they are basically the same instrument.

They have a similar tone engine, both have non-weighted keys, and they are great for beginners looking for a piano on a budget. That said since these are very affordable pianos, there are some sacrifices you have to make in terms of features and realism. But compared to many options in their price range, these LAGRIMA models definitely stand out.
